Those who remove their lacquer often believe that the sound of the horn improves due to the horn’s ability to resonate more freely. This is an area of debate, but the current trend in professional American orchestras is to play un-lacquered horns.

Prices listed are an estimate for a double horn in good condition.
Dependent on type of horn and condition of horn, price will be finalized upon consultation.

• Lacquer Removal: $349 (+$100 for Yamaha horns)
• Detachable Bell Conversion and Lacquer Removal: $850 (+$50 for Yamaha horns). 
• We offer a discount on ultra-sonic cleaning if you book a detachable bell conversion with lacquer removal.
• Balu-To-Go-box $217 includes packing materials and 3 prepaid labels for shipping to and from the store.

Please note that in 2019 the EPA banned the powerful lacquer stripper that professionals were using. Consequently this process is now substantially more labor intensive, especially for Yamaha lacquer which requires numerous passes.
