The Custom Balu-Pope Briz 2000C double french horn is the flagship professional model Briz horn. Everything about this horn is truly handmade. All the tapered sections of the horn are hand cut from flat sheets of brass. Wrapping the sheets around a mandrel prepares them to be brazened together at the seam. Then, using high speed rotation, tens of tons of pressure flatten the seam as the brass is sanded smooth. This labor-intensive method of horn-making ensures that the thickness of the metal is uniform resulting in consistent dimensions throughout the horn.
The 2000C is our lightest and one of the most responsive horns on the market. Extra ‘weight’ for increased tonal dynamic range comes from a spun bell. Making the whole horn of either yellow or gold/rose brass is a detailed aspect of high end instruments. Including the inner and outer slide assures an even tone color throughout registers.
The 2000C double french horn comes from the factory un-lacquered as most professionals in the USA use an un-lacquered horn. Over time it will develop a beautiful patina. This naturally occurring form of oxidation, which we recommend not to remove with polish, actually protects the metal underneath.
You can personally customize this horn by adjusting the thumb lever as well as setting the change valve stop arm to stand in either F or Bb.
