Made by legendary Steve Lewis, who’s horns have been played in the Chicago Symphony for decades, and world wide by professional horn players, this CF Schmidt is truly one of the rarest horns ever made. Steve made only 12 yellow brass and one only one Nickel-Silver CF Schmidt horn. THIS is that one horn. This horn was custom made for David Ohanian at the time when he was part of Canadian Brass. To make this French horn even more unique, Steve hand engraved the tail of the horn with an extensive pattern. This style of engraving requires exceptional eye and hand coordination. When hand engraving a horn there is NO room for mistakes as the sharp knife will irreparably scratch the metal when a mistake is made. Unfortunately in our modern times this type of engraving has become very rare, only a hand full of artists are practicing this across all wind instrument manufacturers.
This horn is in perfect cosmetic and playing shape. The previous owner asked us to install an adjustable pinkie and also the desired small-designed Lewis duck foot.
Not much needs to be said about how good this horn plays when one knows was used in the Canadian Brass for an extensive period of time. Our customers have 2 weeks after receiving the horn to test it, keep it or return. If returned in the same condition the customer will receive 100% refund minus the FedEx ground shipping charge.
