The Paxman Model 45M
Richard Merewether’s collaboration with Paxman in the 1940s led to the creation of the Paxman Bb/F-alto double descant horn, now a standard in the industry. The current model retains the original Paxman valve design, which ensures proper tapers for both the Bb and F-alto sides by diverting the airway near the mouthpiece. The two sides meet at the valve once their bores have expanded to match the bell throat. Recent improvements include a longer taper on the F-alto mouthpipe, enhancing tone and intonation, particularly in the lower range, and providing a smoother transition between the two sides. If you’re looking for a high-quality French horn for sale, this Paxman descant is an excellent choice for professional musicians.
