Engelbert Schimd Bb/Eb Alto Descant Horn – Serial #:1425
This horn made by Schmid has been professionally played by
Thomas Jöstlein, Associate Principal French horn with St. Louis Symphony and Karl Pituch, Principal horn of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
We did an ultrasonic cleaning and made sure the rotors are fast and smooth. Compression is perfect at 0.3. The body of the horn is unlacquered and has zero dents, scoring a 10/10 cosmetically. The bell is 9.5/10 and lacquered. We can make the bell a perfect 10 if we remove the lacquer and fix the small imperfections (upon request).
The horn does now have a case but we have several cases that would be a perfect fit, just give us a call.
Descant horns are usually constructed as double horns, with the primary key in B-flat and an Eb alto side pitched an octave above the F side of a standard double horn. This makes them ideal for performing high, delicate pieces.
In typical Schmid style, this descant horn is exceptionally lightweight and responsive, making it effortless to play. It produces a gorgeous tone and would be a fantastic choice for musicians who frequently play high horn parts or participate in chamber music ensembles.
