The Paxman Model 23E

Here is a Paxman 23E that arrived at our store for consignment. We did an ultrasonic cleaning and made sure that the rotors are smooth and fast. This French horn is in 8.5/10 cosmetically (we are very exigent with our numbers and often score horns lower than the average listed post online). The horn has lacquer on and a few small dents. The lacquer is starting to show signs of wear in small areas. Details pics are available upon request. We can remove the lacquer and fix the dents if requested. Compression on this horn is 0.4 which is very good.

This horn comes with a flat Paxman case. Our customers have 2 weeks after receiving the horn to test it, keep it or return. Paxman double horns, particularly the Model 20, earned an outstanding reputation throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Not content with their success, Paxman introduced the Model 23 in 1999, a design similar to the 20 but with a more open wrap for a freer, more responsive playing experience. While not a Geyer wrap, the Model 23 offers a similar feel.

That same year, Paxman introduced the Europa bell taper, designed to sit between the medium and large tapers. This innovation, often paired with the Model 23, created an instrument with an exceptionally open, free-blowing feel. The addition of gold brass further enhances the warmth of the tone, resulting in a playing experience that’s as soothing and satisfying as a sigh of contentment on a warm beach.
